Job Title: Geotechnical Laboratory Manager

Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Geotechnical Laboratory Manager to oversee the operations of our geotechnical laboratory near Lakeland, FL. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that laboratory testing and analyses are conducted in compliance with industry standards, maintaining laboratory equipment, and managing staff. The Geotechnical Laboratory Manager will also play a key role in developing and maintaining client relationships, ensuring that test results meet quality and turnaround expectations, and supporting engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Laboratory Management: Oversee the daily operations of the geotechnical laboratory, ensuring efficient and effective workflow.
- Quality Control: Ensure all testing procedures comply with ASTM, AASHTO, and other relevant industry standards, as well as project-specific requirements.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and train laboratory technicians and staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to perform their tasks and meet safety and quality standards.
- Testing & Analysis: Manage a range of geotechnical tests, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and rock testing. Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely reports for clients.
- Coordination & Cooperation: Work with all Geotechnics, Inc. locations to provide the highest quality service to our clients.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all laboratory equipment is calibrated, maintained, and operational, coordinating with vendors for any repairs or replacements.
- Client Interaction: Liaise with clients to understand their needs, provide project updates, and ensure that testing results meet their expectations.
- Compliance & Safety: Enforce safety protocols within the laboratory environment and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Data Management: Maintain and organize records of testing and analytical data, ensuring that all results are documented, archived, and readily accessible for future reference.
- Budgeting & Inventory: Manage laboratory budgets, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory levels to support operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- At least 5 years of experience in a geotechnical laboratory or engineering environment, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of geotechnical testing methods, equipment, and industry standards.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to solve complex problems and make critical decisions quickly.
- Certification by a recognized professional body (e.g., ACI, NICET) is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with occasional extended hours based on project requirements.
- Work will be performed in a laboratory environment, with some field visits required for project support.

- General understanding of construction practices.
- Experience in construction monitoring, synthetic liner installation, soils and/or concrete testing preferred.
- Some education in engineering, geology, environmental science or similar field preferred.
- Troxler nuclear density, ACI Level I concrete certifications preferred.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Must have ability to work unsupervised.
- General understanding of Microsoft Office suite.
